- A few words from Malik on last night’s debate:
“I watched the spectacle with some interest although I thought the format restricted debate between the two. Even so, Boris Johnson’s insistence in answering every question with the same empty soundbites rather than engaging with the questions shows the disdain he has for the public. He either does not believe they deserve serious discussion on issues that matter to them, or he doesn’t have the confidence to address these issues. It’s not surprising, he does not need to deal with issues we face through our every day experiences.
“In contrast, Jeremy Corbyn was stateman-like throughout, showing everyone the kind of Prime Minister he will be – one that listens to people and is on their side. As Prime Minister he will deliver the real change the UK needs.
“The stand out moment early on was Jeremy confronting Boris Johnson with papers from US trade talks, highlighting Johnson’s secret plan to sell-off our NHS to US corporations.
“Later on, while Corbyn discussed the challenges of climate change, the effects of austerity on us all and the NHS, Johnson insisted on parroting his tired old slogan, even when it didn’t make any sense in the context of the question put to him. It shows he has no substance, no plan for addressing issues that affect us, and no credibility. And it is clear, no one believes a word Johnson says, understandably so.
“There was only one person on that stage fit to be Prime Minster, and that was Jeremy Corbyn.”
