Malik was born in Lincolnshire and raised in the market town of Louth, not dissimilar to Selby in size and character. He first moved to Yorkshire in 2010 to complete his Masters degree at the University of York, studying History. After working and living in York for a couple of years he lived in Riccall and Snaith before moving to Selby. He works in Normanton as a CAD Technician for an Electrical Engineering company.
Malik became a Town Councillor in 2018 and Selby’s Town Mayor in May 2019. He is standing for Labour in this general election because he feels passionately that the people of Selby and Ainsty deserve better representation from someone who has experienced some of the challenges people have faced under Conservative and Lib Dem austerity.
Labour will be putting a positive programme forward to improve the lives of people across the country through increased investment in public services and policies to benefit those who have felt their wages and living conditions stagnate. Malik is committed to these aims and as your MP will work tirelessly to ensure he represents the interests of all constituents, not just the privileged few.
